           Somethingbig,black,andheavycamecrashingthroughtheswampclosetohim,andwithayellofutterpanicFrecklesran—howfarhedidnotknow;butatlasthegainedcontroloverhimselfandretracedhissteps.Hisjawssetstifflyandthesweatdriedonhisbody.Whenhereachedtheplacefromwhichhehadstartedtorun,heturnedandwithmeasuredstepsmadehiswaydowntheline.Afteratimeherealizedthathewasonlywalking,sohefacedthatseaofhorrorsagain.Whenhecametowardthecorduroy,thecudgelfelltotestthewireateachstep.
