           Aminuteexaminationofthecircumstancesservedonlytomakethecasemorecomplex.Inthefirstplace,noreasoncouldbegivenwhytheyoungmanshouldhavefastenedthedoorupontheinside.Therewasthepossibilitythatthemurdererhaddonethis,andhadafterwardsescapedbythewindow.Thedropwasatleasttwentyfeet,however,andabedofcrocusesinfullbloomlaybeneath.Neithertheflowersnortheearthshowedanysignofhavingbeendisturbed,norwerethereanymarksuponthenarrowstripofgrasswhichseparatedthehousefromtheroad.Apparently,therefore,itwastheyoungmanhimselfwhohadfastenedthedoor.Buthowdidhecomebyhisdeath?Noonecouldhaveclimbeduptothewindowwithoutleavingtraces.
