Theeventwhichitauthorizedsoonfollowed:HenryandCatherineweremarried,thebellsrang,andeverybodysmiled;and,asthistookplacewithinatwelvemonthfromthefirstdayoftheirmeeting,itwillnotappear,afterallthedreadfuldelaysoccasionedbythegeneral’scruelty,thattheywereessentiallyhurtbyit.Tobeginperfecthappinessattherespectiveagesoftwenty-sixandeighteenistodoprettywell;andprofessingmyselfmoreoverconvincedthatthegeneral’sunjustinterference,sofarfrombeingreallyinjurioustotheirfelicity,wasperhapsratherconducivetoit,byimprovingtheirknowledgeofeachother,andaddingstrengthtotheirattachment,Ileaveittobesettled,bywhomsoeveritmayconcern,whetherthetendencyofthisworkbealtogethertorecommendparentaltyranny,orrewardfilialdisobedience.
