           Onedaytherobinrememberedthatwhenhehimselfhadbeenmadetolearntoflybyhisparentshehaddonemuchthesamesortofthing.Hehadtakenshortflightsofafewyardsandthenhadbeenobligedtorest.Soitoccurredtohimthatthisboywaslearningtofly—orrathertowalk.HementionedthistohismateandwhenhetoldherthattheEggswouldprobablyconductthemselvesinthesamewayaftertheywerefledgedshewasquitecomfortedandevenbecameeagerlyinterestedandderivedgreatpleasurefromwatchingtheboyovertheedgeofhernest—thoughshealwaysthoughtthattheEggswouldbemuchclevererandlearnmorequickly.ButthenshesaidindulgentlythathumanswerealwaysmoreclumsyandslowthanEggsandmostofthemneverseemedreallytolearntoflyatall.Younevermetthemintheairorontree-tops.

           Afterawhiletheboybegantomoveaboutastheothersdid,butallthreeofthechildrenattimesdidunusualthings.Theywouldstandunderthetreesandmovetheirarmsandlegsandheadsaboutinawaywhichwasneitherwalkingnorrunningnorsittingdown.Theywentthroughthesemovementsatintervalseverydayandtherobinwasneverabletoexplaintohismatewhattheyweredoingortyingtodo.HecouldonlysaythathewassurethattheEggswouldneverflapaboutinsuchamanner;butastheboywhocouldspeakrobinsofluentlywasdoingthethingwiththem,birdscouldbequitesurethattheactionswerenotofadangerousnature.
