           Hepickeduphiscoatfromthegrassandbroughtoutofapocketalumpylittlebundletiedupinaquiteclean,coarse,blueandwhitehandkerchief.Itheldtwothickpiecesofbreadwithasliceofsomethinglaidbetweenthem.

           “It’softenestnaughtbutbread,”hesaid,“butI’vegotafinesliceo’fatbaconwithittoday.”

           Marythoughtitlookedaqueerdinner,butheseemedreadytoenjoyit.
