           Thistime,however,therewasnoquestioneitherofthetriumphofPompeyorofCæsar;neitherofthedefeatofMithridates,noroftheconquestofGaul.Theprocessionwasasplacidasthepassingofaflockoflambs,andasinoffensiveasaflightofbirdssweepingthroughtheair.
