Asupplementaryclausewastackedtothesentence,totheeffectthat“theaforesaidCorneliusvanBaerleshouldbeledfromtheprisonoftheBuytenhoftothescaffoldintheyardofthesamename,wherethepublicexecutionerwouldcutoffhishead.”
Asthisdeliberationwasamostseriousaffair,itlastedafullhalf-hour,duringwhichtheprisonerwasremandedtohiscell.

MasterGryphuswasdetainedinbedbythefevercausedbythefractureofhisarm.Hiskeyspassedintothehandsofoneofhisassistants.Behindthisturnkey,whointroducedtheRecorder,Rosa,thefairFrisianmaid,hadslippedintotherecessofthedoor,withahandkerchieftohermouthtostiflehersobs.
Corneliuslistenedtothesentencewithanexpressionratherofsurprisethansadness.
Afterthesentencewasread,theRecorderaskedhimwhetherhehadanythingtoanswer.
