Fourdayspassed,andthefifthfoundtheKingoftheBlindstillincognito,asaclumsyanduselessstrangeramonghissubjects.
Itwas,hefound,muchmoredifficulttoproclaimhimselfthanhehadsupposed,andinthemeantime,whilehemeditatedhiscoupd’itat,hedidwhathewastoldandlearntthemannersandcustomsoftheCountryoftheBlind. Hefoundworkingandgoingaboutatnightaparticularlyirksomething,andhedecidedthatthatshouldbethefirstthinghewouldchange.
Theyledasimple,laboriouslife,thesepeople,withalltheelementsofvirtueandhappiness,asthesethingscanbeunderstoodbymen. Theytoiled,butnotoppressively;theyhadfoodandclothingsufficientfortheirneeds;theyhaddaysandseasonsofrest;theymademuchofmusicandsinging,andtherewasloveamongthem,andlittlechildren.
Itwasmarvellouswithwhatconfidenceandprecisiontheywentabouttheirorderedworld.
