           ThewindowatwhichIworkedlookedovertheskylineofthiscrest,anditwasfromthiswindowthatIfirstseteyesonCavor.ItwasjustasIwasstrugglingwithmyscenario,holdingdownmymindtothesheerhardworkofit,andnaturallyenoughhearrestedmyattention.

           Thesunhadset,theskywasavividtranquillityofgreenandyellow,andagainstthathecameoutblack—theoddestlittlefigure.

           Hewasashort,round-bodied,thin-leggedlittleman,withajerkyqualityinhismotions;hehadseenfittoclothehisextraordinarymindinacricketcap,anovercoat,andcyclingknickerbockersandstockings.
