           HismessagebegantobereceivedbyMr.Wendigeewhenthatgentlemanwasengagedinquiteadifferentinvestigation.Thereaderwillnodoubtrecallthelittleexcitementthatbeganthecentury,arisingoutofanannouncementbyMr.NikolaTesla,theAmericanelectricalcelebrity,thathehadreceivedamessagefromMars.Hisannouncementrenewedattentiontoafactthathadlongbeenfamiliartoscientificpeople,namely:thatfromsomeunknownsourceinspace,wavesofelectromagneticdisturbance,entirelysimilartothoseusedbySignorMarconiforhiswirelesstelegraphy,areconstantlyreachingtheearth.BesidesTeslaquiteanumberofotherobservershavebeenengagedinperfectingapparatusforreceivingandrecordingthesevibrations,thoughfewwouldgosofarastoconsiderthemactualmessagesfromsomeextraterrestrialsender.Amongthatfew,however,wemustcertainlycountMr.Wendigee.
