           Justthenwecametothetopofthehill,andlookeddownontheFerryandtheHope.TheFirthofForth(asisverywellknown)narrowsatthispointtothewidthofagood-sizedriver,whichmakesaconvenientferrygoingnorth,andturnstheupperreachintoalandlockedhavenforallmannerofships.Rightinthemidstofthenarrowsliesanisletwithsomeruins;onthesouthshoretheyhavebuiltapierfortheserviceoftheFerry;andattheendofthepier,ontheothersideoftheroad,andbackedagainstaprettygardenofholly-treesandhawthorns,IcouldseethebuildingwhichtheycalledtheHawesInn.
