           Afteralittle,mywaywasstoppedbyacreekorinletofthesea,whichseemedtorunprettydeepintotheland;andasIhadnomeanstogetacross,Imustneedschangemydirectiontogoabouttheendofit.Itwasstilltheroughestkindofwalking;indeedthewhole,notonlyofEarraid,butoftheneighbouringpartofMull(whichtheycalltheRoss)isnothingbutajumbleofgraniterockswithheatherinamong.AtfirstthecreekkeptnarrowingasIhadlookedtosee;butpresentlytomysurpriseitbegantowidenoutagain.AtthisIscratchedmyhead,buthadstillnonotionofthetruth:untilatlastIcametoarisingground,anditburstuponmeallinamomentthatIwascastuponalittlebarrenisle,andcutoffoneverysidebythesaltseas.
