           Justthen,abigMay-bugflewbyandcaughtsightofher.Immediatelyhefastenedhisclawsaroundherslenderwaistandflewwithherupintoatree. Awaywentthegreenleafdownthestream,andawaywentthebutterflywithit,forhewastiedtotheleafandcouldnotgetloose. 

           Mygoodness!HowfrightenedlittleThumbelinawaswhentheMay-bugcarriedherupinthetree. Butshewasevenmoresorryforthenicewhitebutterflyshehadfastenedtotheleaf, becauseifhecouldn’tfreehimselfhewouldhavetostarvetodeath. ButtheMay-bugwasn’tonetocareaboutthat. Hesatherdownonthelargestgreenleafofthetree, fedherhoneyfromtheflowers,andtoldherhowprettyshewas,consideringthatshedidn’tlooktheleastlikeaMay-bug. Afterawhile,alltheotherMay-bugswholivedinthetreecametopaythemacall.
