           Long-Nosefellatthefeetofhisnewmaster,kissedthem,andvowedtoservehimfaithfully.Thelittlefellowwasthusprovidedfor,andhecertainlydidhonourtohisposition,fortheDukewasadifferentmanfromthetimethedwarfenteredhisservice.Beforethattimehehadbeeninthehabitofthrowingtheplatesanddishesattheheadofthecookwhodidnotmanagetopleasehim;indeed,ononeoccasionhehadflungacalf’sfootathisheadcookbecauseitwasnotsufficientlytender,and,catchingthepoormanontheforeheadhadhurthimsomuchthatforthreedayshehadtokeephisbed.ItistruetheDukealwayspaidforhisactsoftemperafterwardswithahandfulofducats,but,nevertheless,hiscookswerewonttosetthedishesbeforehiminfearandwithtremblinghands.
