           Mr.Bambridgehadmoreopenmanners,andappearedtogiveforthhisideaswithouteconomy.Hewasloud,robust,andwassometimesspokenofasbeing"giventoindulgence"—chieflyinswearing,drinking,andbeatinghiswife.Somepeoplewhohadlostbyhimcalledhimaviciousman;butheregardedhorse-dealingasthefinestofthearts,andmighthavearguedplausiblythatithadnothingtodowithmorality.Hewasundeniablyaprosperousman,borehisdrinkingbetterthanothersboretheirmoderation,and,onthewhole,flourishedlikethegreenbay-tree.Buthisrangeofconversationwaslimited,andlikethefineoldtune,"Dropsofbrandy,"gaveyouafterawhileasenseofreturninguponitselfinawaythatmightmakeweakheadsdizzy.
