Therecouldnowbenofurthermercifuldoubtaboutthenatureofthebeingswhichhadbuiltandinhabitedthismonstrousdeadcitymillionsofyearsago,whenman’sancestorswereprimitivearchaicmammals,andvastdinosaursroamedthetropicalsteppesofEuropeandAsia.
Wehadpreviouslyclungtoadesperatealternativeandinsisted—eachtohimself—thattheomnipresenceofthefive-pointedmotifsmeantonlysomeculturalorreligiousexaltationoftheArchaeannaturalobjectwhichhadsopatentlyembodiedthequalityoffive-pointedness;
