Oncemore,therefore,thetrainofvenerableandmajesticfatherswereseenmovingthroughabroadpathwayofthepeople,whodrewbackreverently,oneitherside,astheGovernorandmagistrates,theoldandwisemen,theholyministers,andallthatwereeminentandrenowned,advancedintothemidstofthem.Whentheywerefairlyinthemarketplace,theirpresencewasgreetedbyashout.This—thoughdoubtlessitmightacquireadditionalforceandvolumefromthechild-likeloyaltywhichtheageawardedtoitsrulers—wasfelttobeanirrepressibleoutburstofenthusiasmkindledintheauditorsbythathighstrainofeloquencewhichwasyetreverberatingintheirears.Eachfelttheimpulseinhimself,andinthesamebreath,caughtitfromhisneighbour.
