           ‘MayIgiveyouaslice?’shesaid,takinguptheknifeandfork,andlookingfromoneQueentotheother.

           ‘Certainlynot,’theRedQueensaid,verydecidedly:‘itisn’tetiquettetocutanyoneyou’vebeenintroducedto.Removethejoint!’Andthewaiterscarrieditoff,andbroughtalargeplum-puddinginitsplace.

           ‘Iwon’tbeintroducedtothepudding,please,’Alicesaidratherhastily,‘orweshallgetnodinneratall.MayIgiveyousome?’

           ButtheRedQueenlookedsulky,andgrowled‘PuddingAlice;AlicePudding.Removethepudding!’andthewaiterstookitawaysoquicklythatAlicecouldn’treturnitsbow.

           However,shedidn’tseewhytheRedQueenshouldbetheonlyonetogiveorders,so,asanexperiment,shecalledout‘Waiter!Bringbackthepudding!’andthereitwasagaininamomentlikeaconjuring-trick.Itwassolargethatshecouldn’thelpfeelingalittleshywithit,asshehadbeenwiththemutton;however,sheconqueredhershynessbyagreateffortandcutasliceandhandedittotheRedQueen.

           ‘Whatimpertinence!’saidthePudding.
