"Shutup!"saidthevoicefromthedark,andgrunted.Ignawedmycocoa-nutamidanimpressivestillness.

"Itisaman,"thevoicerepeated."Hecomestolivewithus?"
Itwasathickvoice,withsomethinginit—akindofwhistlingovertone—thatstruckmeaspeculiar;buttheEnglishaccentwasstrangelygood.
