WasthisthesameMoreau?Hehadpublishedsomeveryastonishingfactsinconnectionwiththetransfusionofblood,andinadditionwasknowntobedoingvaluableworkonmorbidgrowths.Thensuddenlyhiscareerwasclosed.HehadtoleaveEngland.Ajournalistobtainedaccesstohislaboratoryinthecapacityoflaboratory-assistant,withthedeliberateintentionofmakingsensationalexposures;andbythehelpofashockingaccident(ifitwasanaccident),hisgruesomepamphletbecamenotorious.Onthedayofitspublicationawretcheddog,flayedandotherwisemutilated,escapedfromMoreau’shouse.
