Itwasbeautifulspringweather,butneitherdogsnorhumanswereawareofit. Eachdaythesunroseearlierandsetlater. Itwasdawnbythreeinthemorning,andtwilightlingeredtillnineatnight. Thewholelongdaywasablazeofsunshine. Theghostlywintersilencehadgivenwaytothegreatspringmurmurofawakeninglife. Thismurmurarosefromalltheland,fraughtwiththejoyofliving. Itcamefromthethingsthatlivedandmovedagain,thingswhichhadbeenasdeadandwhichhadnotmovedduringthelongmonthsoffrost. Thesapwasrisinginthepines. Thewillowsandaspenswereburstingoutinyoungbuds. Shrubsandvineswereputtingonfreshgarbsofgreen. Cricketssanginthenights,andinthedaysallmannerofcreeping,crawlingthingsrustledforthintothesun.
