           ItwasBuck,alivehurricaneoffury,hurlinghimselfupontheminafrenzytodestroy. Hesprangattheforemostman(itwasthechiefoftheYeehats),rippingthethroatwideopentilltherentjugularspoutedafountainofblood. Hedidnotpausetoworrythevictim,butrippedinpassing,withthenextboundtearingwidethethroatofasecondman. Therewasnowithstandinghim. Heplungedaboutintheirverymidst,tearing,rending,destroying,inconstantandterrificmotionwhichdefiedthearrowstheydischargedathim. Infact,soinconceivablyrapidwerehismovements,andsocloselyweretheIndianstangledtogether,thattheyshotoneanotherwiththearrows; andoneyounghunter,hurlingaspearatBuckinmidair,droveitthroughthechestofanotherhunterwithsuchforcethatthepointbrokethroughtheskinofthebackandstoodoutbeyond. ThenapanicseizedtheYeehats,andtheyfledinterrortothewoods,proclaimingastheyfledtheadventoftheEvilSpirit. 

           AndtrulyBuckwastheFiendincarnate,ragingattheirheelsanddraggingthemdownlikedeerastheyracedthroughthetrees. ItwasafatefuldayfortheYeehats. Theyscatteredfarandwideoverthecountry,anditwasnottillaweeklaterthatthelastofthesurvivorsgatheredtogetherinalowervalleyandcountedtheirlosses. AsforBuck,wearyingofthepursuit,hereturnedtothedesolatedcamp. HefoundPetewherehehadbeenkilledinhisblanketsinthefirstmomentofsurprise.
