IwashardlyasclearasIcouldwish.Irepeatedmyselfseveraltimes,andoccasionallyhadtogobacktosomedetailthatIhadforgotten.Poirotsmiledkindlyonme.
“Themindisconfused?Isitnotso?Taketime,monami.Youareagitated;youareexcited—itisbutnatural.Presently,whenwearecalmer,wewillarrangethefacts,neatly,eachinhisproperplace.Wewillexamine—andreject.Thoseofimportancewewillputononeside;thoseofnoimportance,pouf!”—hescreweduphischerub-likeface,andpuffedcomicallyenough—“blowthemaway!”
“That’sallverywell,”Iobjected,“buthowareyougoingtodecidewhatisimportant,andwhatisn’t?Thatalwaysseemsthedifficultytome.”
Poirotshookhisheadenergetically.Hewasnowarranginghismoustachewithexquisitecare.
“Notso.Voyons!Onefactleadstoanother—sowecontinue.Doesthenextfitinwiththat?Amerveille!Good!Wecanproceed.
