Ганзель і Гретель

           Hansel,whothoughttherooftastedverynice,toredownagreatpieceofit,andGrethelpushedoutthewholeofoneroundwindow-pane,satdown,andenjoyedherselfwithit. Suddenlythedooropened,andavery,veryoldwoman,whosupportedherselfoncrutches,camecreepingout.HanselandGrethelweresoterriblyfrightenedthattheyletfallwhattheyhadintheirhands.Theoldwoman,however,noddedherhead,andsaid, "Oh,youdearchildren,whohasbroughtyouhere?Docomein,andstaywithme.Noharmshallhappentoyou." Shetookthembothbythehand,andledthemintoherlittlehouse.Thengoodfoodwassetbeforethem,milkandpancakes,withsugar,apples,andnuts.Afterwardstwoprettylittlebedswerecoveredwithcleanwhitelinen,andHanselandGrethellaydowninthem,andthoughttheywereinheaven. 

           Theoldwomanhadonlypretendedtobesokind;shewasinrealityawickedwitch,wholayinwaitforchildren,andhadonlybuiltthelittlehouseofbreadinordertoenticethemthere. Whenachildfellintoherpower,shekilledit,cookedandateit,andthatwasafeastdaywithher.Witcheshaveredeyes,andcannotseefar,buttheyhaveakeenscentlikethebeasts,andareawarewhenhumanbeingsdrawnear.
