Therosaries,too,whichhesaidconstantly—forhecarriedhisbeadslooseinhistrousers’pocketsthathemighttellthemashewalkedthestreets—transformedthemselvesintocoronalsofflowersofsuchvagueunearthlytexturethattheyseemedtohimashuelessandodourlessastheywerenameless.Heofferedupeachofhisthreedailychapletsthathissoulmightgrowstrongineachofthethreetheologicalvirtues,infaithintheFatherWhohadcreatedhim,inhopeintheSonWhohadredeemedhimandinloveoftheHolyGhostWhohadsanctifiedhim;andthisthricetripleprayerheofferedtotheThreePersonsthroughMaryinthenameofherjoyfulandsorrowfulandgloriousmysteries.
OneachofthesevendaysoftheweekhefurtherprayedthatoneofthesevengiftsoftheHolyGhostmightdescenduponhissoulanddriveoutofitdaybydaythesevendeadlysinswhichhaddefileditinthepast;andheprayedforeachgiftonitsappointedday,confidentthatitwoulddescenduponhim,thoughitseemedstrangetohimattimesthatwisdomandunderstandingandknowledgeweresodistinctintheirnaturethateachshouldbeprayedforapartfromtheothers.YethebelievedthatatsomefuturestageofhisspiritualprogressthisdifficultywouldberemovedwhenhissinfulsoulhadbeenraisedupfromitsweaknessandenlightenedbytheThirdPersonoftheMostBlessedTrinity.
