ToadfeltratherhurtthattheBadgerdidn’tsaypleasantthingstohim,ashehadtotheMole,andtellhimwhatafinefellowhewas,andhowsplendidlyhehadfought;forhewasratherparticularlypleasedwithhimselfandthewayhehadgonefortheChiefWeaselandsenthimflyingacrossthetablewithoneblowofhisstick.Buthebustledabout,andsodidtheRat,andsoontheyfoundsomeguavajellyinaglassdish,andacoldchicken,atonguethathadhardlybeentouched,sometrifle,andquitealotoflobstersalad;andinthepantrytheycameuponabasketfulofFrenchrollsandanyquantityofcheese,butter,andcelery.TheywerejustabouttositdownwhentheMoleclamberedinthroughthewindow,chuckling,withanarmfulofrifles.
"It’sallover,"hereported."FromwhatIcanmakeout,assoonasthestoats,whowereverynervousandjumpyalready,heardtheshrieksandtheyellsandtheuproarinsidethehall,someofthemthrewdowntheirriflesandfled.Theothersstoodfastforabit,butwhentheweaselscamerushingoutuponthemtheythoughttheywerebetrayed;andthestoatsgrappledwiththeweasels,andtheweaselsfoughttogetaway,andtheywrestledandwriggledandpunchedeachother,androlledoverandover,tillmostof’emrolledintotheriver!They’vealldisappearedbynow,onewayoranother;andI’vegottheirrifles.
