Theyarrangedwatchesaccordingly.EachanimaltookitinturnstosleepinToad’sroomatnight,andtheydividedthedayupbetweenthem.AtfirstToadwasundoubtedlyverytryingtohiscarefulguardians.Whenhisviolentparoxysmspossessedhimhewouldarrangebedroomchairsinruderesemblanceofamotor-carandwouldcrouchontheforemostofthem,bentforwardandstaringfixedlyahead,makinguncouthandghastlynoises,tilltheclimaxwasreached,when,turningacompletesomersault,hewouldlieprostrateamidsttheruinsofthechairs,apparentlycompletelysatisfiedforthemoment.Astimepassed,however,thesepainfulseizuresgrewgraduallylessfrequent,andhisfriendsstrovetodiverthismindintofreshchannels.
