           Georgesshruggedhisshouldersandsaidscornfully:"Whatabird!"

           FromthattimeGeorgesnevercalledCharlesanythingbut"poorCharles,"withanaccentofinfinitepity.OneeveningasDuRoywassmokingacigaretteathiswindow,towardtheendofJune,theheatawokeinhimadesireforfreshair.
