           Mr.Trabbhadslicedhishotrollintothreefeather-beds,andwasslippingbutterinbetweentheblankets,andcoveringitup.Hewasaprosperousoldbachelor,andhisopenwindowlookedintoaprosperouslittlegardenandorchard,andtherewasaprosperousironsafeletintothewallatthesideofhisfireplace,andIdidnotdoubtthatheapsofhisprosperitywereputawayinitinbags.

           "Mr.Trabb,"saidI,"it’sanunpleasantthingtohavetomention,becauseitlookslikeboasting;butIhavecomeintoahandsomeproperty."

           AchangepassedoverMr.Trabb.Heforgotthebutterinbed,gotupfromthebedside,andwipedhisfingersonthetablecloth,exclaiming,"Lordblessmysoul!"

           "IamgoinguptomyguardianinLondon,"saidI,casuallydrawingsomeguineasoutofmypocketandlookingatthem;"andIwantafashionablesuitofclothestogoin.Iwishtopayforthem,"IaddedotherwiseIthoughthemightonlypretendtomakethem,"withreadymoney."

           "Mydearsir,"saidMr.Trabb,asherespectfullybenthisbody,openedhisarms,andtookthelibertyoftouchingmeontheoutsideofeachelbow,"don’thurtmebymentioningthat.MayIventuretocongratulateyou?Wouldyoudomethefavorofsteppingintotheshop?"

           Mr.Trabb’sboywasthemostaudaciousboyinallthatcountry-side.
