Well,nowthatIhadfoundtheboat,youwouldhavethoughtIhadhadenoughoftruantryforonce,butinthemeantimeIhadtakenanothernotionandbecomesoobstinatelyfondofitthatIwouldhavecarrieditout,Ibelieve,intheteethofCaptainSmolletthimself.Thiswastoslipoutundercoverofthenight,cuttheHispaniolaadrift,andlethergoashorewhereshefancied.Ihadquitemadeupmymindthatthemutineers,aftertheirrepulseofthemorning,hadnothingnearertheirheartsthantoupanchorandawaytosea;this,Ithought,itwouldbeafinethingtoprevent,andnowthatIhadseenhowtheylefttheirwatchmenunprovidedwithaboat,Ithoughtitmightbedonewithlittlerisk.
DownIsattowaitfordarkness,andmadeaheartymealofbiscuit.Itwasanightoutoftenthousandformypurpose.Thefoghadnowburiedallheaven.Asthelastraysofdaylightdwindledanddisappeared,absoluteblacknesssettleddownonTreasureIsland.Andwhen,atlast,IshoulderedthecoracleandgropedmywaystumblinglyoutofthehollowwhereIhadsupped,therewerebuttwopointsvisibleonthewholeanchorage.
Onewasthegreatfireonshore,bywhichthedefeatedpirateslaycarousingintheswamp.Theother,amerebluroflightuponthedarkness,indicatedthepositionoftheanchoredship.
