IreturnedtothehouseinadifferentframeofmindtothatinwhichIhadleftit;andwasenchantedtofindMargaret—theoldMargaret—waitingforme.
Afterdinner,whenIwasaloneforatimewiththefatheranddaughter,Iopenedthesubject,thoughwithconsiderablehesitation:
"Woulditnotbewelltotakeeverypossibleprecaution,incasetheQueenmaynotwishwhatwearedoing,withregardtowhatmayoccurbeforetheExperiment;andatorafterherwaking,ifitcomesoff?"Margaret’sanswercamebackquickly;soquicklythatIwasconvincedshemusthavehaditreadyforsomeone:
