           WhensupperwasoverwealladjournedtotheroomwhichMr.Trelawnyhadsetasideashisstudy,hisbedroombeingclosetoit.Asweentered,thefirstthingInoticedwasagreatsafe,somewhatsimilartothatwhichstoodinhisroominLondon.WhenwewereintheroomMr.Trelawnywentovertothetable,and,takingouthispocket-book,laiditonthetable.Ashedidsohepresseddownonitwiththepalmofhishand.Astrangepallorcameoverhisface.Withfingersthattrembledheopenedthebook,sayingashedidso:

           "Itsbulkdoesnotseemthesame;Ihopenothinghashappened!"
