           "Towardeveningwecametotheentranceofanarrow,deepvalley,runningeastandwest.Iwishedtoproceedthroughthis;forthesun,nownearlydownonthehorizon,showedawideopeningbeyondthenarrowingofthecliffs.Butthefellaheenabsolutelyrefusedtoenterthevalleyatsuchatime,allegingthattheymightbecaughtbythenightbeforetheycouldemergefromtheotherend.Atfirsttheywouldgivenoreasonfortheirfear.TheyhadhithertogoneanywhereIwished,andatanytime,withoutdemur.Onbeingpressed,however,theysaidthattheplacewastheValleyoftheSorcerer,wherenonemightcomeinthenight.OnbeingaskedtotelloftheSorcerer,theyrefused,sayingthattherewasnoname,andthattheyknewnothing.Onthenextmorning,however,whenthesunwasupandshiningdownthevalley,theirfearshadsomewhatpassedaway.
