WhentheyhadbroughthertotheHallthemaidenwasplacedinanupperchamber,whileHugoandhisfriendssatdowntoalongcarouse,aswastheirnightlycustom. Now,thepoorlassupstairswasliketohaveherwitsturnedatthesingingandshoutingandterribleoathswhichcameuptoherfrombelow, fortheysaythatthewordsusedbyHugoBaskerville,whenhewasinwine,weresuchasmightblastthemanwhosaidthem.
