           "Hoaxallthesame,"saidMarvel. "Iknowthechapthatstartedthelie.Thereain'tnoInvisibleManwhatsoever—Blimey." 

           "Buthow'boutthispaper?D'youmeantosay—?" 

           "Notawordofit,"saidMarvel,stoutly. 

           Themarinerstared,paperinhand.Mr.Marveljerkilyfacedabout. "Waitabit,"saidthemariner,risingandspeakingslowly,"D'youmeantosay—?" 

           "Ido,"saidMr.Marvel. 

           "Thenwhydidyouletmegoonandtellyouallthisblarstedstuff,then? Whatd'yermeanbylettingamanmakeafoolofhimselflikethatfor?Eh?" 

           Mr.Marvelblewouthischeeks.Themarinerwassuddenlyveryredindeed;heclenchedhishands. "Ibeentalkingherethistenminutes,"hesaid;"andyou,youlittlepot-bellied,leathery-facedsonofanoldboot,couldn'thavetheelementarymanners—" 

           "Don'tyoucomebandyingwordswithme,"saidMr.Marvel.
