           Inthishumourofpassiveresistance,andwithhisgarmentcollectedbeneathhimtokeephislimbsfromthewetpavement,Isaacsatinacornerofhisdungeon,wherehisfoldedhands,hisdishevelledhairandbeard,hisfurredcloakandhighcap,seenbythewiryandbrokenlight,wouldhaveaffordedastudyforRembrandt,hadthatcelebratedpainterexistedattheperiod.TheJewremained,withoutalteringhisposition,fornearlythreehours,attheexpiryofwhichstepswereheardonthedungeonstair.Theboltsscreamedastheywerewithdrawnthehingescreakedasthewicketopened,andReginaldFront-de-Boeuf,followedbythetwoSaracenslavesoftheTemplar,enteredtheprison.
