           Itmaybehereremarked,thattheknightsofthesetwoorderswereaccountedhostiletoKingRichard,havingadoptedthesideofPhilipofFranceinthelongtrainofdisputeswhichtookplaceinPalestinebetwixtthatmonarchandthelion-heartedKingofEngland.Itwasthewell-knownconsequenceofthisdiscordthatRichard’srepeatedvictorieshadbeenrenderedfruitless,hisromanticattemptstobesiegeJerusalemdisappointed,andthefruitofalltheglorywhichhehadacquiredhaddwindledintoanuncertaintrucewiththeSultanSaladin.
