Onthe15thourpreparationswereallmade.OurhostgavetheProfessorverygreatpleasurebypresentinghimwithamapofIcelandfarmorecompletethanthatofHendersen.ItwasthemapofM.OlafNikolasOlsen,intheproportionof1to480,000oftheactualsizeoftheisland,andpublishedbytheIcelandicLiterarySociety.Itwasapreciousdocumentforamineralogist.
OurlasteveningwasspentinintimateconversationwithM.Fridrikssen,withwhomIfelttheliveliestsympathy;then,afterthetalk,succeeded,forme,atanyrate,adisturbedandrestlessnight.
AtfiveinthemorningIwasawokebytheneighingandpawingoffourhorsesundermywindow.Idressedhastilyandcamedownintothestreet.Hanswasfinishingourpacking,almostasitwerewithoutmovingalimb;andyethedidhisworkcleverly.Myunclemademorenoisethanexecution,andtheguideseemedtopayverylittleattentiontohisenergeticdirections.
