           Andwhiletheslaughterandthenoiseandshoutingwereattheirgreatest,suddenlytherecamedownthroughthebattleMerlintheWizard,uponagreatblackhorse,andridingtoKingArthur,hecriedout,“Alas,myLord!willyehaveneverdone?Ofsixtythousandhaveyeleftbutfifteenthousandmenalive.Isitnottimetostaythisslaying?forGodisillpleasedwithyethatyehaveneverended,andyonderkingsshallnotbealtogetheroverthrownthistime.Butifyefalluponthemanymore,thefortuneofthisdaywillturn,andgotothem.Withdraw,Lord,therefore,tothylodging,andtherenowtakethyrest,forto-daythouhastwonagreatvictory,andovercomethenoblestchivalryofalltheworld.Andnowformanyyearsthosekingsshallnotdisturbthee.Therefore,Itellthee,fearthemnomore,fornowtheyaresorebeaten,andhavenothingleftthembuttheirhonour;andwhyshouldestthouslaythemtotakethat?”
