           ThenwasSirBorsashamed,andtookhishorseandrodetotheendofthelists.

           ButerehecouldmeetSirMadorhewaswareofaknightuponawhitehorse,armedatallpoints,andwithastrangeshield,whorodetohimandsaid,“Iprayyouwithdrawfromthisquarrel,foritismine,andIhaveriddenfartofightinit.”

           ThereatSirBorsrodetoKingArthur,andtoldhimthatanotherknightwascomewhowoulddobattleforthequeen.

           “Whoishe?”saidKingArthur.

           “Imaynottellyou,”saidSirBors;“buthemadeacovenantwithmetobehereto-day,whereforeIamdischarged.”

           Thenthekingcalledthatknight,andaskedhimifhewouldfightforthequeen.

           “ThereforecameIhither,Sirking,”answeredhe;“butletustarrynolonger,foranonIhaveothermatterstodo.Butwityewell,”saidhetotheKnightsoftheRoundTable,“itisshametoyeforsuchacourteousqueentosufferthisdishonour.”

           Andallmenmarvelledwhothisknightmightbe,fornoneknewhimsaveSirBors.

           ThenSirMadorandtheknightrodetoeitherendofthelists,andcouchingtheirspears,ranoneagainsttheotherwithalltheirmight;andSirMador’sspearbrokeshort,butthestrangeknightborebothhimandhishorsedowntotheground.Thenlightlytheyleapedfromtheirsaddlesanddrewtheirswords,andsocameeagerlytothebattle,andeithergavetheothermanysadstrokesandsoreanddeepwounds.

           Thustheyfoughtnighanhour,forSirMadorwasafullstrongandvaliantknight.Butatlastthestrangeknightsmotehimtotheearth,andgavehimsuchabuffetonthehelmaswellnighkilledhim.
