           ThencameSirKeytheseneschalwithsixcompanions,anddidwondrouswell,tilltheelevenkingswentoutagainstthemandoverthrewSirGrifletandSirLucasthebutler.AndwhenSirKeysawSirGrifletunhorsedandonfoot,herodeagainstKingNantershotlyandsmotehimdown,andledhishorsetoGrifletandhorsedhimagain;withthesamespeardidSirKeysmitedownKingLotandwoundedhimfullsore.

           Butseeingthat,theKingoftheHundredKnightsrushedatSirKeyandoverthrewhiminreturn,andtookhishorseandgaveittoKingLot.AndwhenSirGrifletsawSirKey’smischance,hesethisspearinrest,andridingatamightyman-at-arms,hecasthimdownheadlongandcaughthishorseandleditstraightwaytoSirKey.

           Bynowthebattlewasgrowingperilousandhard,andbothsidesfoughtwithrageandfury.AndSirUlfiusandSirBrastiaswerebothafootandingreatdangeroftheirdeath,andfoullystainedandtrampledunderhorses’feet.ThenKingArthur,puttingspurstohishorse,rushedforwardlikealionintothemidstofallthemêlée,andsinglingoutKingCradlemontofNorthWales,smotehimthroughtheleftsideandoverthrewhim,andtakinghishorsebythereinhebroughtittoSirUlfiusinhasteandsaid,“Takethishorse,mineoldfriend,forthouhastgreatneedofone,andchargebysideofme.”AndevenashespokehesawSirEctor,SirKey’sfather,smittentotheearthbytheKingoftheHundredKnights,andhishorsetakentoKingCradlemont.
