           Then,hisspearbeingbroken,hedrewforthhisswordandstruckoutontherighthandandontheleft,ateachblowsmitingdownaman,tilltheremainderfled,andhepursuedthem.

           ThenSirPercival,knowingthatitwasSirGalahad,wouldfainhaveovertakenhim,butcouldnot,forhishorsewasslain.Yetfollowedheonfootasfastashecouldgo;andashewenttheremethimayeomanridingonapalfrey,andleadinginhishandagreatblacksteed.SoSirPercivalprayedhimtolendhimthesteed,thathemightovertakeSirGalahad.Buthereplied,“ThatcanInotdo,fairsir,forthehorseismymaster’s,andshouldIlendithewouldslayme.”Sohedeparted,andSirPercivalsatdownbeneathatreeinheavinessofheart.Andashesat,anonaknightwentridingpastontheblacksteedwhichtheyeomanhadled.Andpresentlyaftercametheyeomanbackinhaste,andaskedSirPercivalifhehadseenaknightridinghishorse.

           “Yea,”saidSirPercival.

           “Alas,”saidtheyeoman,“hehathrefthimfrommebystrength,andmymasterwillslayme.”

           ThenhebesoughtSirPercivaltotakehishackneyandfollow,andgetbackhissteed.Soherodequickly,andovertooktheknight,andcried,“Knight,turnagain.”Whereatheturnedandsethisspear,andsmoteSirPercival’shackneyinthebreast,sothatitfelldead,andthenwentonhisway.ThencriedSirPercivalafterhim,“Turnnow,falseknight,andfightwithmeonfoot;”buthewouldnot,androdeoutofsight.

           ThenwasSirPercivalpassingwrothandheavyofheart,andlaydowntorestbeneathatree,andslepttillmidnight.
