           ButSirTristramrodeagainstSirGaherisandsmotehimfromhishorse,andwhenSirBleoberisnextencounteredhim,heoverthrewhimalso.Anontheyhorsedthemselvesagain,andwiththemcameSirDinadan,whomSirTristramforthwithsmotesosorely,thathereeledoffhissaddle.Thencriedhe,“Ah!Sirknight,Iknowyebetterthanyedeem,andpromisenevermoretocomeagainstye.”ThenrodeSirBleoberisathimthesecondtime,andhadabuffetthatfelledhimtotheearth.Andsoonthereafterthekingcommandedtoceaseforthatday,andallmenmarvelledwhoSirTristramwas,fortheprizeofthefirstdaywasgivenhiminthenameoftheKnightoftheBlackShield.

           NowSirPalomedeswasonthesideoftheKingofNorthWales,butknewnotSirTristramagain.And,whenhesawhismarvellousdeeds,hesenttoaskhisname.“Astothat,”saidSirTristram,“heshallnotknowatthistime,buttellhimheshallknowwhenIhavebrokentwospearsuponhim,forIamtheknighthesmotedownyesterday,andwhateversidehetaketh,Iwilltaketheother.”

           SowhentheytoldhimthatSirPalomedeswouldbeonKingCarados’side—forhewaskindredtoKingArthur—“ThenwillIbeontheKingofNorthWales’side,”saidhe,“butelsewouldIbeonmylordKingArthur’s.”

           Thenonthemorrow,whenKingArthurwascome,theheraldsblewuntothetourney.AndKingCaradosjoustedwiththeKingofaHundredKnightsandfellbeforehim,andthencameinKingArthur’sknightsandbarebackthoseofNorthWales.
