           “Asforthat,”saidSirLancelot,“beitasitmay,butyeshallyieldtoQueenGuinevereatthenextfeastofPentecostasprisoners,andsaythatSirKeysentye.”

           Thentheysworetohimitshouldbedoneashecommanded.AndsoSirLancelotpassedon,andthethreebrethrenhelpedeachother’swoundsasbesttheymight.

           ThenrodeSirLancelotforwardintoadeepforest,andcameuponfourknightsofKingArthur’scourt,underanoaktree—SirSagramour,SirEctor,SirGawain,andSirEwaine.Andwhentheyspiedhim,theythoughthewasSirKey.“Nowbymyfaith,”saidSirSagramour,“IwillproveSirKey’smight!”andtakinghisspearherodetowardsSirLancelot.

           ButSirLancelotwasawareofhim,and,settinghisspearinrest,smotehimsosorely,thathorseandmanfelltotheearth.

           “Lo!”criedSirEctor,“IseebythebuffetthatknighthathgivenourfellowheisstrongerthanSirKey.NowwillItrywhatIcandoagainsthim!”SoSirEctortookhisspear,andgallopedatSirLancelot;andSirLancelotmethimashecame,andsmotehimthroughshieldandshoulder,sothathefell,buthisownspearwasnotbroken.
