           “Sobeit,”saidSirLancelot,“asIamatrueknight.”

           Soshedeparted,andonthemorrow,early,cameagain,andlethimoutoftwelvegates,differentlylocked,andbroughthimtohisarmour;andwhenhewasallarmed,shebroughthimhishorsealso,andlightlyhesaddledhim,andtookagreatspearinhishand,andmountedandrodeforth,saying,ashewent,“Fairdamsel,Ishallnotfailthee,bythegraceofGod.”

           Andallthatdayherodeinagreatforest,andcouldfindnohighway,andspentthenightinthewood;butthenextmorningfoundhisroad,andcametotheabbeyofwhitemonks.AndtherehesawKingBagdemagusandhisdaughterwaitingforhim.Sowhentheyweretogetherinachamber,SirLancelottoldthekinghowhehadbeenbetrayedbyanenchantment,andhowhisbrotherLionelwasgoneheknewnotwhere,andhowthedamselhaddeliveredhimfromthecastleofQueenMorganleFay.“WhereforewhileIlive,”saidhe,“Ishalldoservicetoherselfandallherkindred.”

           “ThenamIsureofthyaid,”saidtheking,“onTuesdaynownextcoming?”

           “Yea,sir,Ishallnotfailthee,”saidSirLancelot;“butwhatknightsweretheywholastweekdefeatedthee,andtookpartwiththeKingofNorthgales?”

           “SirMadordelaPort,SirModred,andSirGahalatine,”repliedtheking.
