           Butastheynearedthecamp,agreathostmorerushedforth,andturnedthebattlebackwards,andintheturmoil,SirBorsandSirBerelfellintotheRomans’hands.WhenSirGawainsawthat,hedrewhisgoodswordGalotine,andsworetoseeKingArthur’sfacenomoreifthosetwoknightswerenotdelivered;andthen,withgoodSirIdrus,madesosoreanonslaughtthattheRomansfledandleftSirBorsandSirBereltotheirfriends.SotheBritonsreturnedintriumphtoKingArthur,havingslainmorethantenthousandRomans,andlostnomanofworshipfromamongstthemselves.

           WhentheEmperorLuciusheardofthatdiscomfiturehearose,withallhisarmy,tocrushKingArthur,andmethiminthevaleofSoissons.
