Myfatherhadbeenaprofessortherebeforeme,andhisfatherbeforehim. Foracenturyandahalfhadthisuniversity,likeasplendidmachine,beenrunningsteadilyon. Andnow,inaninstant,ithadstopped. Itwaslikeseeingthesacredflamediedownonsomethrice-sacredaltar. Iwasshocked,unutterablyshocked.
