Heenteredintothedetailsofexplanationwiththegreatestanimation.Heshowedalltheattitudesofpitcherandcatcherandbatterintherealgame,andgaveadramaticdescriptionofawonderful“hotball”hehadseencaughtonthegloriousoccasiononwhichhehadwitnessedamatchincompanywithMr.Hobbs.Hisvigorous,gracefullittlebody,hiseagergestures,hissimpleenjoymentofitall,werepleasanttobehold.
Whenatlasttheexplanationsandillustrationswereatanendandthegamebeganingoodearnest,theEarlstillfoundhimselfentertained.Hisyoungcompanionwaswhollyabsorbed;heplayedwithallhischildishheart;hisgaylittlelaughswhenhemadeagoodthrow,hisenthusiasmovera“homerun,”hisimpartialdelightoverhisowngoodluckandhisopponent’s,wouldhavegivenaflavortoanygame.
