Sowhenheknewhispapawouldcomebacknomore,andsawhowverysadhismammawas,theregraduallycameintohiskindlittleheartthethoughtthathemustdowhathecouldtomakeherhappy.Hewasnotmuchmorethanababy,butthatthoughtwasinhismindwheneverheclimbeduponherkneeandkissedherandputhiscurlyheadonherneck,andwhenhebroughthistoysandpicture-bookstoshowher,andwhenhecurledupquietlybyhersideassheusedtolieonthesofa.Hewasnotoldenoughtoknowofanythingelsetodo,sohedidwhathecould,andwasmoreofacomforttoherthanhecouldhaveunderstood.
