AroundBillina’sneckwasastringofbeautifulpearls,andonherlegswerebraceletsofemeralds.ShenestledherselfcomfortablyinDorothy’slapuntilthekittengaveasnarlofjealousangerandleapedupwithasharpclawfiercelybaredtostrikeBillinaablow.Butthelittlegirlgavetheangrykittensuchaseverecuffthatitjumpeddownagainwithoutdaringtoscratch.
"Howhorridofyou,Eureka!"criedDorothy."Isthatthewaytotreatmyfriends?"
"Youhavequeerfriends,seemstome,"repliedthekitten,inasurlytone.
"Seemstomethesameway,"saidBillina,scornfully,"ifthatbeastlycatisoneofthem."

Theywerebothmuchfrightenedatthethreat,andpromisedmeeklytobegood.Butitwasnevernoticedthattheybecameverywarmfriends,forallofthat.
AndnowtheTinWoodmanarrived,hisbodymostbeautifullynickle-plated,sothatitshonesplendidlyinthebrilliantlightoftheroom.TheTinWoodmanlovedDorothymosttenderly,andwelcomedwithjoythereturnofthelittleoldWizard.
